QLD 2022 Smoke Alarm Legislation

Queenslander rental providers and home owners are required to ensure their properties meet the following smoke alarm safety requirements.

Queensland 22 – Legislation Requirements

  • All bedrooms must have smoke alarms installed in them.
  • All smoke alarms must be either 240v or 10-year lithium battery powered.
  • All properties must have interconnected smoke alarms.
  • All smoke alarms must be of the photoelectric type
  • All smoke alarms must meet Australian Standard 3786:2014

From January 2022 – All dwellings sold or leased and all Government owned housing.

Before January 2027 – All domestic dwellings in the state of Queensland.

General information: Properties/dwellings must have a smoke alarm in every bedroom, on every level and in the main path to exit.
